Theatrics of Paper’ Year 3 Project 2

This project creates visual moments of
performative disruption within a theatre, whereby the audience is presented to itself, blurring the boundary between performance and reality. The building mirrors and divides these brief moments of objectification and voyeurism by layering the typologies of theatre and set production. Paper elements of the architecture and the stage are cast within the various programmed spaces, further subverting the role of the audience into having an active involvement with the theatres development, expansion and deterioration.

Developing a method of paper craft that utilises the absorptive properties of plaster moulds into the process of casting paper. Similarly to slip casting, the plaster draws the moisture from the pulp like water from slip. This hybrid process allows for an accelerated production of Three dimensional and rigid paper forms.
